Amish Quilt Auction and Flea Market

If you’ve never been to a quilt auction or flea market, you really should go.  For a couple of years now my daughter, mom, sister(s), and I have gone up to the Yoder’s Amish Quilt Auction and Flea Market in Clare, Michigan.   Most of the quilts are “jaw droppingly” beautiful, and even though I was determined not to buy anything this year…Well, I ended up with a queen sized Barn Raising Log Cabin quilt that was made by a friend’s cousin.

Friday afternoon we walked through the flea market which was filled with antiques, crafts and the occasional food vendor.  I don’t know how it compares in size to most flea markets, but it seems huge.  Someone once told me that it is 18 acres of treasure.

Saturday, we spent all day in the quilt auction watching the pieced quilts of all different sizes and designs being auctioned off.  This year it seems that the quilts done in blues and reds were the most popular.  Of course, just  the thought of how much time and effort goes into the making of these quilts makes my head spin, so after a whole day of just sitting and watching, I was exhausted…LOL

This year was really a treat since we stayed at one of the cutest and most comfy little cabins just north of Clare.   We weren’t sure what to expect when we booked the cabin online.  It looked good from the pictures, but how do you really know until you’re there.  We were note disappointed.  On the contrary, we were delighted at what we found which was a clean, well equipt, beautiful cabin in a pastoral setting.   We only wish we had more time to spend there.
