Homestead Happenings
What’s New in May
It’s that time of year– Time to plan a “girl’s trip” to the Homestead.
As you’ve probably already heard, Longaberger family members will no longer be doing the daily basket signings. But beginning in May, they will be having Terrific Tuesdays. Wendy Longaberger will be signing baskets from 12-2 on Tuesdays only, and there will be of 2-for-1 specials at different Longaberger attractions.
You might also like to note that many of the Longaberger shops and attractions have new summer hours and will be closed on Wednesdays. If you’re planning a trip to Dresden, be sure to check it out.

When we’re in Indiana, we love to stay at the historic inns found in some of the state parks. If you’re going to the Vera Bradley outlet sale in Fort Wayne and don’t mind a little drive to your hotel, then the Potawatomi Inn at the Pokagon State Park in Angola is a wonderful place to stay. The Potawatomi Inn was the second Indiana State Park in which we’ve stayed. There are so many things to do and see at the Inn and the Park that we left feeling sad that we couldn’t stay longer. These parks and inns are each unique in their history and ammenities that you’ll want to give yourself some time to explore. Now how many times have you stayed in a “chain” motel and wished you could stay longer and explore? lol
Now let me tell you our first Indiana Inn experience. The first one we stayed in was the Spring Mill Inn at the Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell. We knew as soon as we started up the drive that we would love this place. You take a long winding drive back to a beautiful old building. Just going down the drive is like stepping back in time. I will tell you that if you don’t appreciate older buildings then this probably isn’t the place for you, but you couldn’t ask for a more quiet and peaceful place to stay.
Having said that…tornadoes ripped through the area on our first night there; the electricity went out, and we had to take cover in the basement with the other guests. And even that didn’t keep us from staying another night. There were guests gathered in common areas reading, playing cards, and even a mini sing-along. So if you’d like to stay someplace where you’ll feel at home, I’d say this is a good one.
Be sure to check out the website! The pictures don’t come close to showing the beauty of these parks.
